The punter lives in anonymity until he trots onto the field for his handful, or less, opportunities each game. And if he delivers, or fails to deliver, rest assured every fan will know who he is. One kick may boom 50 yards and look great and the next one could be shanked, blocked, flubbed or botched in any number of ways.
