Knights women's squad prepares for GLVC Championships

The Bellarmine University women's cross country team captured their second consecutive meet title by winning the 10-team Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational on Saturday. Last week, the Knights won the Gibson Family Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Knights were again led by reigning GLVC Runner of the Week Meghan Shagena (Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Ursula Academy), who finished fifth overall, covering the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:57.  Sophomore Angela Musk (New Hope, Ky., Bethlehem) was right on her heels and finished sixth overall with a time of 19:02.  Also finishing in the top 15 were Kelsey Love (Westfield, Ind.), Lindsay Boyce (Versailles, Ky.), and Corrie Reiter (Louisville, Ky.)in 10th, 11th, and 13th respectively.

It was brisk, but perfect day for running. A temperature around 60 degrees and a tasking head wind at the start proved no match for the Knights who dominated the course to say the least.  This strong, senior-led team effort is just what the doctor ordered for the Knights. The experience and depth of the team is going to play a major role in the near future as the Knights look forward to running in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.

The win should give the Knights confidence heading into the GLVC Championships, which are being held on the same course three weeks from now in Kenosha, Wisc. UWP National Cross Country Course, Nov. 6, at 10:45 a.m
