Assumption volleyball star headed to Notre Dame next year

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 key questions - some in-depth, some lighthearted - that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Below are the "20 Key Questions," brought to you by Key Financial Mortgage LLC.

Assumption High School Jeni Houser has been killing it all season for the Rockets volleyball team, and has her team four wins away from AHS' first state volleyball championship since 2007, when Houser was a freshman and Assumption defeated Notre Dame 25-14, 25-17.

Houser is a senior now and is ready to end her high school career as a winner.

But even if the six-foot-three volleyball prodigy does not finish with a state championship, it will be tough to call her final season a disappointing one. The University of Notre Dame signee has added the following accolades to her 2010 trophy case: 7th Region Player of the Year, a member of the PrepVolleyball.com "top seniors" list, and chosen as a player on the All-Tournament Team for the Durango Fall Classic (Las Vegas, NV), Asics Challenge (Chicago, IL), and this month's Region 7 Tournament at HOOPS in Louisville.

She has averaged 3.6 kills per game and 51 total blocks on the season, which ranks extremely high among local competition.

Along with her athletic achievements, Houser is also very popular among her classmates and touts an impressive 3.8 GPA. As mentioned, Houser will take her extraordinary talents to Notre Dame next year and continue her volleyball career with the Fighting Irish. But before she can begin play in the KHSAA state volleyball tournament, Houser took time out of her schedule to face the "Questions," and her answers are listed below.

Be sure to check out Houser this weekend, as Assumption begins state tourney play on Friday at 1pm against South Laurel. Action continues all weekend at Bellarmine University's Knights Hall, and if Houser & Co. are able to reach the championship game, that is slated to be played at 7pm on Saturday evening.
