Sacred Heart golf team finishes second to Green County

It's a different year, but the same result for the Sacred Heart Academy golf team, who finished runner-up behind Green County in the Leachman/KHSAA Girls State Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club today - the exact same finish as last season.

SHA was three shots off the team lead following its collective score (346) following Day 1 at the par-72, 5,657-yard course in western Kentucky, but could not keep up with state champion Green County's 324 that they shot today. The Valkyries finished the tournament with a two-day team score of 680, and were led by Mackenzie Moir's 157 (81-76). Other Sacred Heart players who contributed to the team total were Katie Page (166), Emily Tofaute (168), Hannah Feldkampt (189), and Rachel Breit (194).

In 2009, SHA's team total 695 was six shots of Green County's 689 at the state tournament.

Moir's score was good enough for eighth overall in the individual scoring. The overall individual champion, who shot a two-day 139, was Caldwell County's Emma Talley. Mercy Academy's Chau Tran finished the tournament tied for 15th overall (77-85-162), while Presentation Academy's Michael Ann Humphreys shot a +20 (92) on Day 1 and failed to make the cut.

The boys tournament tees off this weekend. Check back to LouisvilleCatholicSports.com for updates and results.
