Providence senior takes on the Questions

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 key questions - some in-depth, some lighthearted - that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Below are the "20 Key Questions," brought to you by Key Financial Mortgage LLC.

The Our Lady of Providence High School football team had its season cut entirely too short several weeks ago. Despite building a 20-point lead over Triton Central in a Class 2A, Sectional 31 playoff game against Triton Central, the Pioneers fell 29-25, which ended the year for Head Coach Gene Sartini and the Providence squad.

But the season was nothing to scoff at, as the Pioneers put together six exciting wins and gave its fans plenty to cheer about. And leading the pack for Providence virtually the entire season was senior Spencer Corrao.

It's tough to know what Corrao's total offensive numbers would have been for the 2010 season if he was the team's feature back. But in the Sartini system - an old fashioned, wing T approach to the game - Corrao was one of several weapons consistently utilized by the Providence scheme. Regardless, Corrao still finished the season as one of the most successful running backs in Indiana football.

Corrao, who is considering Air Force, Dayton, Cornell, Navy, and Wofford for college next year, rushed 162 times for 1065 yards this season, and was in top 15 of all Class 2A with 15 touchdowns. He also averaged nearly seven yards every team he took a handoff, was good for about 140-plus yards every game he played, and did all of this while also offering his versatility where needed, as Corrao played 11 different positions at some point during this past season.

The senior Corrao says he hates to lose, but his true victories aren't determined by a sectional playoff loss. His 3.5 GPA in the classroom and willingness to do anything for his family and teammates are what mean the most. Corrao recently took part in the weekly "20 Key Questions" segment, and his answers are below.

1. What is your favorite pump up music on game day?

My favorite pump up song before games is “We Be Steady Mobbin” by Lil' Wayne

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports?

My faith is the most important part of my athletic career.  Everything I do in sports is because of my faith.  After every single touchdown I have ever scored, I point up to the sky to show that all the glory belongs to GOD because I know that without him i couldnt do anything.  He has given me strength throughout my entire career.  Especially this season, when my lung collapsed and I was in the hospital for a week.  I was fortunate enough to be back on the field before the end of the season, which was very unlikely.  I know that never could have happened, had GOD not been there looking out for me and giving me strength.

7. What keeps you motivated?

I set goals for myself every year, every seaon, every week, every day and I constantly work to achieve those goals.  But the thing that keeps me motivated the most is my family.  My family is always there to support me, so I don't want to let them down.  I strive to succeed in order to thank them for everything they do for me every single day.
