Sacred Heart senior dual-athlete takes on the Questions

Just a few months ago, Sacred Heart Academy senior Maddie Peabody was doing every thing in her power to keep balls from finding the net.

Now that soccer season is over, however, the Valkyries basketball starting point guard is doing every thing she can to make sure balls are going through the net.

And thus far, she's been extremely successful at both.

Leading her team to another soccer state tournament appearance this season as the team's starting goalkeeper, Peabody is a superb athlete at SHA. And despite not winning a state title this year, the All-State honoree Peabody did lead her team to championships in the three previous seasons. On the basketball court, Peabody is the team's top 3-point shooter and is currently averaging over 11 points per game.

Until Wednesday morning, she had also led Sacred Heart to an 8-0 start to the season before her sqaud's 53-51 loss to defending state champion Mercy Academy in the Republic Bank Classic semifinals.

But for all of her athletic accolades, Peabody is just as successful as a person and in life. The SHA Student Council President, Peabody is popular among her peers, maintains a 3.70 GPA, and is a well-balanced student-athlete. Peabody was also recently named Prom Queen at SHA. She has decided to attend Lafayette College in Easton, PA next year and will continue her basketball career there.

Her current roundball team is preparing to play in the Junior Orange Bowl Girls Basketball Classic on Dec. 28, but before Peabody heads to Miami for the event, she took the time to answer a Christmas version of the "20 Key Questions." Her answers are below.

1. What is your favorite pump up music on game day?

We listen to a variety of music in the locker room before games, but my personal favorite is N’sync.

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game?

A banana and a granola bar

3. Best Christmas gift you've ever received?

My sister and I got a trampoline when I was younger which was awesome

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level?

Either Steve Nash or Tim Howard. They are both fun to watch and feel I can learn from both of them just by watching how they play.

5. What is your favorite movie quote?

“If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don't care what the scoreboard says. At the end of the game, in my book, we're gonna be winners."- Hoosiers

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports?

It has helped me to shape the way I try to play. To play fair and respect your coaches, teammates, opponents, and everyone else involved in the game.

7. What keeps you motivated?

Always wanting to get better; trying to be the best that I can be. Also, anything I can do to help my team.

8. All time favorite board game?

Monopoly

9. Favorite Christmas song?

Either "Grownup Christmas List" or "Winter Wonderland."

10. Favorite Facebook function?

Don’t really have one.

11. What is your favorite reality TV show?

I don’t watch much reality TV, but I guess Top Chef or Jersey Shore.

12. What is your favorite pro team?

Boston Celtics

13. What is your best quality/characteristic?

Dependable

14. Gatorade or Powerade? Which flavor?

Gatorade, Riptide Rush or Glacier Freeze

15. What is your favorite hour of the day?

Probably 9:30am because it is a nice time to sleep in until, but it is not too late so that you can still make your day really productive. It helps you to have your day wide open.

16. What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

On Christmas day my entire family meets at my grandfather’s house to celebrate Christmas together. We eat lunch and dinner together and it is a lot of fun and great to see everyone that I don’t always get to see on a regular basis.

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service during the holidays?

The Cathedral Soup Kitchen, it is great to help those that are less fortunate around the holidays, and serving lunch a couple times is the least that I can do when I am able to.

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess?

I am a pretty good cook.

19. Which do you prefer? Gift giving or gift receiving? Why?

I like giving because it is great to see someone’s reaction to the gift you put time into thinking about just for them. It just makes you feel really good afterward.

20. What is your proudest athletic moment?

When we (Sacred Heart) won the 2009 State Championship in Penalty Kicks in Soccer, and I was MVP of the State Tournament.
