"20 Key Questions" With Morgan Clemons
Sacred Heart Academy senior takes on the Questions
Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 key questions - some in-depth, some lighthearted - that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Below are the "20 Key Questions," brought to you by Key Financial Mortgage LLC.
Sacred Heart Academy senior Morgan Clemons has been making her opponents see "double" throughout the 2011 basketball season, and her efforts have propelled the Valkyries to a 14-3 record, a first-round bye in this week's Louisville Invitational Tournament and into an elite group of top teams in the state.
Clemons, who attended Holy Trinity Elementary School, has reached a statistical double-double in the majority of her 17 games this season, and currently leads SHA in scoring with 13.2 points per game. She is .01 rebounds per game away from actually averaging a double-double. Her 48.9 shooting percentage from the field is second only to fellow senior Monica McGreal and Clemons' 83 attempted free throws leads the team by a wide margin.
To the joy of local basketball fans, Clemons has already signed with Bellarmine University and will stay in her own backyard to continue her basketball career next season. Clemons' mother, Stephanie, is one of the Lady Knights' all-time greats and Morgan hopes to follow in her footsteps at BU.
And she seems poised to do so. Already this season, Clemons was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Republic Bank Classic in Lexington, where the Valkyries fell to defending state champion Mercy Academy in the final seconds of the tournament's semifinals. In a starting lineup that features all seniors, Clemons has been able to put up her numbers with a relatively quiet approach, but there is no doubt she will continue to be targeted by opposing team defenses for the remainder of the season.
Off the basketball court, Clemons maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom Named to the All Tournament Team at the Lexington Catholic Tournament over Christmas Break. She attended Holy Trinity Parish School and is currently a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Breakfast Club, and National Honor Society.
Clemons and her SHA teammates take on Jeffersontown in Thursday's LIT second round at Male High School. But before taking the floor, Clemons recently took part in the weekly "20 Key Questions" segment for LouisvilleCatholicSports.com, and her answers are below.
