Ranked Rockets Win XC Academy Meet

Assumption cross country closes regular season with victory

Assumption High School’s cross country team won its sixth Academy Meet Championship in the last seven years, defeating Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Mercy and Presentation over the weekend at Champions Park.

The Rockets took seven of the first eight places in the varsity race, and the top five places in the JV race.

The sophomore trio of Emily Bean (19:23.98), Bailey Davis (19:29.32) and Kenzley Defler (19:43.02) were the top varsity finishers for Assumption, with Abbie Wright, Jessica Byrd, Natalie Senninger, Olivia Boughey and Kyndel Guyton leading the JV Rockets to their resounding victory.? 

Sophomore Katherine Receveur (5th; 19:49.08), sophomore Kate Crawford (6th; 19:53.01), senior Caroline McCaslin (7th; 20:03.89) and senior Amanda Vokoun (8th; 20:19.00) also factored into the varsity point-scoring.

The Academy Meet wraps up the season for the cross country team. AHS has won three meets this season including: Academy Meet in Louisville, KY; Bella Vista Bronco Invitational in Folsom, CA; and Palatine Invitational in Palatine, IL. The Rockets are currently ranked No. 12 in the nation which is the first time any local, all girls, cross country team has been nationally ranked. 

Assumption will compete for the region title in Class 3A, Region 4 on Nov. 5 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park
