Presentation senior finds time to tackle the questions

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Name: Meredith Degner

Age: 17

Current school: Presentation Academy

Current Sports playing: Basketball

Parish/grade school attended: Holy Spirit

High school GPA: 3.92

Colleges considering or attending: I’m considering U of L, Saint Louis University, and University of Dayton

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? Beating Assumption on their Senior Night last year was definitely one of my proudest moments. The energy that night with the rest of my team was awesome!

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? Either a Subway sandwich or Cheez-Its and a granola bar.

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? I’m not much of a singer, but definitely “That Should Be Me” by Justin Bieber.

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? Nnemkadi Ogwumike from Stanford’s women’s basketball team, she graduated last year. Every time I watched her play she always had so much energy and confidence, you could tell that her teammates really looked up to her.

5. What is your favorite movie quote? “You look like a bunch of fifth grade sissies after a cat fight! You got anger, that's good cause you're gonna need it, you got aggression that's even better you're gonna need that, too. But any little two year old child can throw a fit! Football is about controlling that anger, harnessing that aggression into a team effort to achieve perfection!” ~Coach Boone, Remember the Titans

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? The biggest factor is just being thankful, I have seen so many girls have to stop because of injuries or illness and it is truly a blessing to get the opportunity to play every day.

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? Russel, the Boy Scout from UP

8. All time favorite board game? Monopoly

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? Hopefully team iPhone by Christmas.

10. What is your favorite local (non chain) restaurant? Café Lou Lou, I could eat their pasta salad and hummus everyday!

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? Dance Moms, those ladies are crazy!

12. What is your greatest fear? Losing someone really close to me.

13. What is your best quality/characteristic? I’m really honest, sometimes too honest.

14. Favorite junk/comfort food? Potato Soup from Rafferty’s

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? From 3-4 because school has just let out and I am getting ready for practice with the team!

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? I don’t really have a nickname, other than Mere, and that’s just because my name is too long to say on the court!

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service? Appalachia, we have the option to go on an alternative spring break every year- I’ve been twice and it is such an eye opening experience.

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? I really enjoy baking and have gotten pretty good at it over the last couple years.

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one - to travel forward or backward - which would you select and why? I would for sure move forward, so I could figure out where I end up going to college so I wouldn’t have to keep filling out applications.

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask? I would ask Gabby Douglas how it feels to be younger than me and have already won an Olympic gold medal.
