Area’s top girls cross country runners are honored

The All-Catholic Teams include and recognize student-athletes who played at the top level during the regular and postseasons within their sport. Players are selected based on nominations and feedback from local coaches and the staff that covered the teams during the 2012 season.

When it comes to girls cross country, most teams fear the catholic teams from Louisville. Why? At least one catholic school finished in the top five in each of the three classes at the state meet. Assumption won their third straight state title in Class 3-A, Sacred Heart placed third in Class 3-A, Holy Cross placed fourth in Class A, and Mercy Academy placed fifth in Class 2-A.

Bailey Davis of Assumption won the Class 3-A individual state meet while Karly Gawarecki of Holy Cross was the runner up in the Class A Meet. Assumption’s Katherine Receveur, Emily Bean, and Maggie Allen of Sacred Heart all sprinted their way to a ten showing at the state meet. Hence the reason why these five runners were named to the First Team All Catholic Team.
