Bat Pats Begin Conference Tourney Thursday
No. 4 seed St. Catharine looking for postseason run
The St. Catharine College Bat Pats open up their postseason with the Mid-South Conference Tournament Thursday in Columbia.
The No. 4 seeded Pats (32-23, 11-9), open up with No. 5 seed Shawnee State University (31-23, 11-10) at 2:00pm EST at Lindsey Wilson College.
"We're excited about the tournament," noted Patriot skipper Luther Bramblett. "Our conference is extremely tough and anyone can win this week. It'll be an exciting week of baseball!"
The Patriots swept the regular season series, winning 2-1, 1-0 and 6-2. The Bears are third in the MSC with a .315 team average and lead the league with 6.85 runs per game. Their pitching staff carries a 4.36 ERA. The Patriots are 4th in the conference with a 3.53 ERA and 9th with a .275 batting average, but average 6.26 runs a game.
Both clubs are fielding around the .950 mark.
"They are a good club. They really swing the bats well and their staff fills up the zone. We are going to have to play really well to advance, it's tough to beat a team three times - but four is asking a lot." commented Bramblett. "Our guys will compete and leave it on the field. It's an exciting time of the year!"
The Patriots are in the same bracket with #1 seed and 10th ranked Lindsey Wilson College. The Raiders play the winner of the play-in game with No. 8 seed Rio Grande University and No. 9 University of Pikeville at 11:00am Thursday.
The loser bracket game will follow the SC v SSU matchup at 5:00 and the winners bracket game will start at 8:00. At Campbellsville University, the No. 2 seed Georgetown College will play No. 7 seed University of the Cumberlands at 10:00am. No. 3 seed Campbellsville University will play #6 seed UVA Wise at 1:00.
The bracket will play out the same at the CU site.
