SCC volleyball player takes on the questions

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses.

1) How did you choose the college you attend?  

I chose St. Catharine because of its strong academic reputation and its promising volleyball program. I also like that I am close enough to home to be able to go back when I want.

2) What is your favorite part of college athletics?

My favorite part of college athletics is the tough competition and my amazing teammates that have become my closest friends.

3) How do you balance academics and your sport(s)?

Having good time management is key, without it everything kind of falls apart.

4) What is the hardest part about being a student athlete?  

The hardest part is the limited amount of time you have to just relax or do other things.

5) What do you do for fun when you aren’t in class or at practice?

Spend time with my friends or take a nap!

6) What is the best characteristic that you bring to your teammates?

I love making people laugh, I’m always making jokes.

7) What does your team do as a pre-game ritual?

We always come together and pray the Lord’s Prayer.

8) What music do you listen to before a game?

Anything with a fast beat to pump me up.

9) What role does your faith play throughout school, games, and practice?

My faith keeps me strong, devoted, and passionate about school and volleyball. It also reminds me to be thankful for everything I have.

10) Favorite pro team to watch?

Boston Celtics

11) What is your coach’s best quality?

He is a great recruiter. He brings in some really talented girls. He is working hard to rebuild the program and make it something it’s never been before.

12) Why is a team captain(s) so important to the team?

Every team needs a leader, someone that can motivate and inspire you to do your best for the team.

13) How does your team handle defeat? What do you say to your team after a tough loss?

No one likes to lose, but if you tried your best, then there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

14) What is your favorite pre game snack?

Fruit and peanut butter crackers

15) Favorite movie quote?

“Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?” –What a Girl Wants

16) What advice do you have for young student athletes as they decide where to go to college?

Your future is more important than any sport, so pick a college based on its academics before its athletics.

Pandora

18) How do you think your involvement in college sports and academics will benefit you when you begin to look for a job?

Balancing academics and a sport shows commitment and time management skills. Those are both very important requirements for any job.

19) What does it mean to play athletics for a catholic college?

Playing for a religious school reminds me to keep my faith close to me in everything I do.

20) What is your proudest athletic achievement?

All-Conference Honorable Mention my freshman year.
