Two former golfers from Sacred Heart Academy and St. Xavier have made a splash in the collegiate golf world this fall.

Sacred Heart alum Lindsay Gahm is a senior at LSU and won the individual title at The Alamo this past weekend. Gahm shot a 68-68-69 to lead the Tigers to a second-place finish.

Gahm birdied three of the final five holes to secure the victory and birdied the final hole when she was tied with Oklahoma’s Alexandra Kaui.

“I wasn’t really aware how I stood,” Gahm said in a news release on lsusports.net. “Alexis was walking with me. I hit a 9 iron to about five feet and walking up I asked her where I stood. She said we were tied. The Oklahoma girl had 20 feet and missed it and I made my putt. It’s such a great feeling. I’ve been close before, but this time really put three great rounds together.”

And that was no surprise considering how well Gahm was playing. After bogeying the second and third hole the first day, she didn’t record a single bogey during the final 43 holes.

Before this past weekend, Gahm had never won an individual competition but had been in top five – five times.

St. Xavier alum Stephen Stallings Jr. made his first start for the University of Kentucky this past weekend at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.

Stallings shot a 73-76-78 (11 over par) to finish 33rd as an individual. UK placed third.

This was the Wildcats' final golf tournament of the fall; the second half of the season will take place in the spring. Their next competition will be at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate from Feb. 17-18. Stallings is expected to start more in the spring.
