Senior swimmer from Presentation tackles the questions this week

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Name: Alexandria (Lexie) Cezanne VanHoover

Age: 17

Current Sports playing: Swimming

Parish/grade school attended: Sacred Heart of Jesus

High school GPA: 3.6

I was born in Oakland, CA on a military base while my father was overseas. My family and I moved to Washington then settled down in Jeffersonville, IN where we currently live. From there I attended a public grade school then switched to a private school in the sixth grade. Once I graduated, I began to attend Presentation Academy in 2009. Throughout my four years at Pres I have played volleyball, cheerleading, swimming, and soccer while keeping my grades up and continuously serving my community.

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? Bringing my team from last place to first place during a 400 free relay my first year on the team.

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? Oatmeal with a protein drink

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood.

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? Ryan Lochte or Michael Phelps because they each put 110% in what they love to do and they do anything just to improve themselves for the next race.

5. What is your favorite movie quote? "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up."--Thomas Wayne in the movie Batman Begins

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? Due to my faith in God, I always say a short prayer before I get on the block to race. I don’t ask to win first place but only to have the strength to do my best and make him proud.

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? Scooby-doo.

8. All-time favorite board game? Candyland.

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? Droid, Instagram.

10. What is your favorite local (non chain) restaurant? Smoketown USA.

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? The Voice.

12. What is your greatest fear? I constantly fear failure whether it is my team, my family, or just myself.

13. What is your best quality/characteristic?

My best quality would have to be my care and support for others.

14. Favorite junk/comfort food?

Peanut butter and Agava sandwich on whole wheat bread.

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? Night because I love the stars in the sky and I’m more of a night owl than a morning person.

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? Well I have two nicknames on my team. My first one is Bruise from finding Nemo because I was a vegetarian for three years. Then I picked up a new one called Walnut due to my practice cap saying Walnut on it. Coach Baca got us all these random caps for practice and I ended up with the one that says Walnut on both sides so everyone decided to change my nickname to that this year.

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service? I love to help at the soup kitchen when I can, but I normally go around the Louisville area doing health fairs with my Neenaw (my adopted grandmother) and teaching people the importance of a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle.

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? The ability to keep trying anything and everything to reach my goals, no matter what anyone says or what happens to stop me.

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one - to travel forward or backward - which would you select and why? I would choose to travel forward because I wouldn’t want to change anything about my past. Every event from my past has made me who I am today so I wouldn’t change it no matter what. I feel looking into the future would help me know what I need to prepare for it.

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask? I would choose my Neenaw and I would ask her why she chose me to take over everything she does for the community rather than someone else.
