Rockets sign LOI's

Assumption’s athletic program has won two state championships (volleyball and cross country) and also can claim another state quarterfinalist (soccer), regional champions in three other sports and a club sport state runner-up (field hockey) this season. With that success, a number of Rockets will have the chance to continue their careers at the collegiate level.

London Ackermann, Katie Friedrich, Kelsey Gordon, Kaelin Grimes, Kelsey Kaiser, Erin Keifer, Audra Kinney, Abbie Mather, Hailey Netherton, Sara Nicolas, Kylie Noltemeyer, Brandy Orth-Becker, Taylor Paulson, Morgan Riggs and Dee Dee Sliter signed letters of intent to participate with colleges  Wednesday afternoon at Assumption.


Riggs is Assumption’s all-time leading scorer and will sign with the University of Kentucky. The Rockets won their first Seventh Region title since 2006 during Riggs’ senior season. The striker was named to the SSCAA/adidas All-Region team, was a Kentucky Miss Soccer finalist and made the All-State First Team, All-Catholic First Team,  All-Seventh Region Team, All-District Team and was Assumption’s Most Valuable Player  and the Jenna Cooper Memorial Cleat Cup Most Valuable Player.  


Ackermann played libero for the Rockets and will sign with Georgia Tech. The Rockets won three state titles during her time.

Grimes signed with Western Kentucky University and is a defensive specialist. She was a member of three state title teams.

Paulson will sign with Saint Louis University and won three state titles while playing for Assumption. During her senior year, she was named Miss Kentucky Volleyball and made the Durango All-Tournament Team, Asics Challenge All-Tournament Team, Region 7 Player of the Year, State All-Tournament Team, All-Catholic team, Top 250 Senior Ace by Prep Volleyball and was a All American Max Prep and a Mizuno All American.


Friedrich will sign with Lindsey Wilson.

Sliter will sign with Spalding. She was named second-team All-Region, all-district and the Ohio/Kentucky Classic Game Most Valuable Player in 2011.

Field hockey

Gordon will sign with Centre, DePaul or Pacific.

Keifer will sign with Centre.

Kinney played midfield for the Rockets and will sign with the College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Kinney was named to the All-Catholic  Second Team, Academic All-American, Apple Tournament All-Tournament Team, Kentucky All-Star Team and Kentucky Second Select Team during her senior year.

Netherton will sign with the University of Louisville. She was named to the All-State Tournament and  Kentucky Select teams and was nominated for Kentucky Miss Field Hockey during her senior year.

Nicolas, who played goalie for the Rockets, will sign with Central Michigan. She was named to the All-Tournament Team and was first-team All-State as a senior.

Basketball and soccer

Kaiser played both sports for Assumption and will sign to play both for Spalding. She is a power forward and center in basketball and a soccer goalie.


Mather will sign with Belmont. In 2012 Mather was named to the Deco-Turf All-Tournament Team and All-State Team and was the Most Valuable Player.


Noltemeyer, a port and starboard rower and cross country runner for Assumption, will sign to row with U of L. She has won the Hammer Award five times.

Track and soccer

Orth-Becker will play both sports for Centre. She is a forward on the soccer team and competes in sprints, relays, hurdles and the triple jump on the track team. As a senior, Orth-Becker was named to the All-Catholic Team, All-Region and All-District team for soccer and named to the KTCCCA Academic All-State team and set numerous individual records as well as winning an individual and team medal in state track.
