All-Catholic Girls Basketball Team
The players below performed at the highest level on the court this past year and were named to the 3rd Annual LouisvilleCatholicSports.com All-Cathoilc Team. The decision was based on nominations and voting from a panel of LCS writers/reporters who covered these teams and players during the 2012-13 season.
A number of the local schools saw plenty of success on the hardwood during the 2012-2013 season. Mercy Academy went to its first Sweet 16 since 2010 and Holy Cross advanced to the All-“A” Classic State Tournament.
Assumption advanced to the Seventh Region championship before bowing out in a heartbreaker to Manual 36-34. The Rockets finished their season with a 22-8 record and notched victories over archrivals Sacred Heart and Mercy. It was the first win over Mercy for the Rockets' senior class.
Holy Cross returned to the All-“A” Classic State Tournament in January and advanced to the quarterfinals. The Cougars finished the season 17-15 and opened some eyes with their solid play in a losing effort to Butler 66-57 in the first round of the Sixth Region tournament.
Presentation Academy opened the season with a 5-5 start, but the Toppers dropped 13 out of their next 15 games to finish the year with a 7-20 record. The Toppers' highlight of the season was advancing to the Sixth Region All-“A” Classic championship game.
Mercy Academy overcame severe injuries to Victoria Dircksen and Kayla Richardson and won the Sixth Region championship by defeating Butler 66-54. Manual ended Mercy’s season in the first round of the Houchens Industries Sweet 16 74-60. The Jaguars finished the year with a 20-11 record.
Sacred Heart Academy suffered a heart wrenching loss to Manual 62-60 in overtime in the Seventh Region semifinals. That game included multiple technical fouls in the final five minutes of regulation. The Valkyries finished the season 22-9 and won the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz.
