20 Questions with Karly Gawarecki

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses.

Name: Karly Gawarecki

Age: 15

Current school: Holy Cross High School

Current sports playing: Cross Country & Track

Parish/grade school attended: St. Andrew Academy

High school GPA: 3.6

Colleges considering or attending: Not sure

Bio: I've been running since the 4th grade but didn't really take it seriously untill freshman year. Iv'e always played soccer either for school or for rec leagues but I gave up playing this year to focus more on school and running. I almost didn't run cross country my freshman year, but after some convincing from my family and friends I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did.

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? My proudest athletic moment is winning the Lexington Catholic Invitational last year

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? Home-made fruit smoothie.

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? Downtown by Lady Antebellum.

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? I look up to Hope Solo. She inspires me to be who I am and be proud of that. Hard work is necessary and to be the best you have to train like crazy day in and day out.

5. What is your favorite movie quote? "Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave." - Skipper the penguin, Madagascar.

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? When I run, I run for God, doing my best and thanking him for the opportunities he has given me to accomplish all that I have. I do my best to show good sportsmanship and respect my competition.

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? Scooby Doo.

8. All-time favorite board game? Life.

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? IPhone, Candy Crush -I'm addicted!

10. What is your favorite local (non-chain) restaurant? Mark's Feed Store

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? Duck Dyansty

12. What is your greatest fear? Suffocating.

13. What is your best quality/characteristic? I always try to have a positive attitude and have a smile on my face

14. Favorite junk/comfort food? Ice cream!

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? 8:00 p.m., because that is when the sun starts to set and I can finally start to relax for the day

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? Kar Kar, my brother couldn't say Karly when he was little or Karls, my friends gave it to me.

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service? I don't have a particular favorite place but I try to help out at my grade school and wherever I can.

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? My dad says I have a knack for finding 4 leaf clovers

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one - to travel forward or backward - which would you select and why? Forward, just to make sure I turn out alright

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask? I would ask Kara Goucher, former Olympic runner, what her motivation was to stick with running even when she felt like she just wanted to give up.
