20 Questions with Casey Axman

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses.

  • Current Sports playing: Soccer and Football
  • Parish/grade school attended: St. Edwards (Richmond, VA)/ Midlothian Middle School 
  • High school GPA: 3.7
  • Colleges considering or attending: University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, College of the Holy Cross, DePaul University, Loyola University, Western Michigan University

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? My proudest athletic moment is making it to the second round of the State Cup for my Chicago Fire Juniors Club team. 

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? My ideal meal/snack before a game is either fruit or a granola bar and water. 

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? If I were trying out for American Idol my "go to" song would be Summer Nights by the Rascal Flatts. 

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? My idol athlete is Iker Casillas (goalkeeper Real Madrid) because he shows that in order to play at the professional level you don't have to be the biggest or strongest player; you just have to have the right mental approach towards the game along with the right attitude during training and game play. 

5. What is your favorite movie quote? My favorite movie quote is King Leonidas: "Children, gather round! No retreat, no surrender; that is Spartan law. And by Spartan law we will stand and fight... and die. A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breath to defend it!"

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? Faith is the foundation of my approach to sports, without it I wouldn't be where I'm at now. It's not only religious faith either it's the faith that you have in myself and my team that drives me to want to play my best. 

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? My favorite cartoon character is Spongebob.

8. All-time favorite board game? My all-time favorite board game is Trouble. 

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? iPhone and my favorite app is iFunny..

10. What is your favorite local (non chain) restaurant? My favorite local restaurant is D. Nalley's.

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? My favorite reality TV show is Duck Dynasty. 

12. What is your greatest fear? My greatest fear is roller coasters. 

13. What is your best quality/characteristic? My best quality/characteristic is that I love to joke with people.

14. Favorite junk/comfort food? My favorite junk/comfort food is my grandmas M&M Cookies. 

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? My favorite hour of the day is whatever time practice or training is because there is always room for improvement. 

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? I don't really have a nickname, most people just call me by my last name because they think it’s cool or they like to pronounce it Axe-Man. 

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service? My favorite place to volunteer/provide community service is the Soup Kitchen because you meet lots of kind people and I feel a sense of accomplishment when I help those who are less fortunate than me. 

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? One hidden talent that I possess is that I can juggle. 

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one - to travel forward or backward - which would you select and why? I would choose backwards because I don't want to know my future; I want it to be a surprise. 

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask? If I could pick one person and ask them a question it would be my grandpa who passed away in the summer of 2012. I would ask him what his advice about life for me would be and the secret to great relationships with friends and loved ones.
