20 Questions with AHS's Alexa Filley

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 questions that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses.

Name: Alexa Filley.

Age: 17.

Current school: Assumption High School.

Current Sports playing: Volleyball.

Parish/grade school attended: St. Martha.

High school GPA (optional): 3.95.

Colleges considering or attending: Committed to play at Auburn University.

Bio: I started playing volleyball at the age of nine. I’ve been playing club volleyball for eight years. I am the senior setter at Assumption. 

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? When we won state for the third year in a row and getting MVP at the state tournament.

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? Banana and almonds.

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? Kerri Walsh Jennings because she has continued to play the game that she loves even after having three children. She continues to win Olympic gold medals and strive for what she loves.

5. What is your favorite movie quote? “Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.” –Dodgeball.

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? I believe that without God I would not be where I am today. He has blessed me with the skills to pursue my dream of playing volleyball in college. I love when we pray before games because it helps me reflect and focus on how lucky we are as a team to be playing the game that we all love.

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? The minions from Despicable Me.

8. All time favorite board game? Pictionary.

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? iPhone. I’m obsessed with Pinterest.

10. What is your favorite local (non chain) restaurant? Oishi Sushi.

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? The Bachelorette.

12. What is your greatest fear? Getting attacked by a shark.

13. What is your best quality/characteristic? I am a good listener and caring.

14. Favorite junk/comfort food? Dark chocolate covered pretzels.

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? 7 a.m. after a lesson because I feel like I’ve accomplished so much and I’m ready to take on the day.

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? Lex or Minnie because coach Ron called me that my freshman year because I was so soft spoken.

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service? The first grade class at Watterson Elementary School.

18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? I like to cook and bake.

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one - to travel forward or backward - which would you select and why? Backward so I could relive the best moments of my life

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask?

I would ask Gabby Douglas what it felt like to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
