INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University freshmen Christian Taylor and Caroline Smith were respectively named the season's final Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday following a vote from the conference's head coaches.

Both Knights were honored for their efforts in last Friday's double dual meet against Centre College and Asbury University, and the dual at Transylvania University on Saturday.

Taylor won the 200 individual medley in 2:01.93 and then broke a Centre College pool record in the 100 backstroke with a strong time of 53.76.  The following day at Transylvania, the LaGrange, Ky., native again secured victories in the 200 individual medley (2:03.27) and the 100 backstroke (53.79).

On the women's side, Smith captured both the 100 and 200 freestyle events at Transylvania in times of 57.69 and 2:04.29, respectively.  The Richmond, Ky., native was also a part of the 200 freestyle relay time that finished second in 1:50.06.  The night before at Centre College, she placed second in the 200 medley relay (1:58.76), and fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.86). Both weekly honors are the firsts in the history of the Bellarmine swimming and diving program.

The inaugural GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships will take place next week, Feb. 12-15, in Crawfordsville, Ind.
