Bellarmine University libero Jaclyn Ohlmann defies the adage coined by legendary Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant that "offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships." Watching Ohlmann throw her body around a volleyball court digging would-be kills by her opponent is certainly entertainment worthy of the price of a ticket.

A rising senior at Bellarmine, Ohlmann was named the first-ever "Libero of the Year" in the Great Lakes Valley Conference last season and has been re-writing the Bellarmine record books since her freshman season. Among her accomplishments include:

-career leader in digs (1,647)

-most digs in a match (52)

-recorded 36 or more digs in a match eight times

-named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week three times

-named First Team All-GLVC, 2013

-named the 2013 AVCA All-Midwest Region Team

-ranked 5th in the nation (2013) with 6.51 digs per set

Her play has not gone unnoticed by the volleyball world, as she was invited to play on an American U22 team that will compete in the European Global Challenge in Eastern Europe from July 8-19. The team consists of standout NCAA Division I and II players from 10 different universities.

Ohlmann, who was recommended for the team by an opposing GLVC coach, will be one of two liberos on the 12-member team.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge," Ohlmann said. "I'm excited to get to play against the Europeans. They're the best, and I'm always looking for competition."

Ohlmann's team, officially the 2014 BIP-Southeastern U22 squad, will begin with three days in Prague, Czech Republic for sightseeing, training and competition alongside the Czech Junior National team, with final tournament preparation in Maribor, Slovenia. From July 13-18, the team will play against Junior National teams from Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia and Slovenia, as well as club teams from Austria, Italy, Romania and Serbia.

The squad will be led by Swedish Elite Series coach Daniel Magnusson and assisted by Katie Charles (Sunshine Volleyball Club, California) and Meghan Sherman (professional athlete, Sweden).

The tour is produced through Bring It Promotions, which has coordinated overseas university tours since 1997.
