The visiting Bellarmine University women's tennis team swept Union (Ky.) College 9-0 on Sunday, while the Knights men were defeated 2-7.

Bellarmine's women (5-5) dominated their match against the Bulldogs (2-9), as the six singles players combined to lose a mere two games. Freshman Maggie Walroth, senior Caitlin Hanley, junior Sydney Thompson and sophomores Marissa Kovach and Mairin Cotter all won two matches.

Walroth dropped a single game in winning at No. 1 singles and she combined with Hanley to blank their opponents at No. 1 doubles. The duo bumped their record together to 13-4. Walroth is fast approaching 30 wins, as she's now amassed 26 split evenly between singles and doubles play. Hanley, who swept every game in her No. 2 singles match, recorded her 20th triumph of the season.

Thompson lost a single game in winning at No. 3 singles and teamed with Kovach for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. At Nos. 4 and 5 singles, Kovach and Cotter didn't drop a game in their victories. They have both notched 11 singles wins this season and Kovach has 21 overall.

Sophomore Bess Fley won by default at No. 6 singles, and Cotter and junior Sydney Landers did the same at No. 3 doubles.

On the men's side, junior Zachary Kuo was a part of both of the wins for Bellarmine (3-6) against Union (4-7). He combined with fellow junior Jose Legaretta for a 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles over Ignacio Tejerina and Tiago Gil. The pair improved to 8-3 this season.

Kuo also triumphed in a tight match at No. 2 singles, winning the first set in a tiebreaker before clinching the victory with a 6-4 outcome in the second set.

Bellarmine plays Friday at Quincy and Saturday at Washington University.
