St. Xavier’s soccer team is one game away from repeating as state champions after defeating Henry Clay 1-0 at Lexington’s Frederick Douglass High Thursday night in the semifinals.

Conner George scored the game lone goal when Case Cox sent a cross along the end-line along the slot and he scored off the pass in the 21st minute.

The Tigers held off a furious Blue Devils team the rest of the way.

St. X fired 17 shots at Henry Clay goalkeeper Angel Urbina-Velasco (three saves).

The Blue Devils blasted seven shots at Tiger goalkeeper Dugan Dolan (two saves).

St. X earned seven corners while their opponents didn’t earn one.

The Tigers will play Highlands in the state finals Saturday at 8 p.m.
