District tournament roundup (Tuesday)

The Holy Cross (girls’), Mercy, St. Xavier, and Trinity basketball teams collected wins Tuesday night and secured spots in their respective regional tournaments that start next week. The Holy Cross boys’ saw their season end with a loss. Here’s a look at the recaps.



21st District (semifinals)

Holy Cross 55, Fairdale 17

24th District (semifinals)

Mercy 70, Jeffersontown 44

Taziah Jenks led the victorious Jaguars with 17 points and four rebounds. Sidney Shephard and Paige Taylor both added 11 points and Sydney Rivette had nine points.

The Jaguars will play Bullitt East, who beat Fern Creek 68-66, in the district title game at 7 p.m. Thursday.



21st District (semifinals)

Fairdale 66, Holy Cross 51

26th District (semifinals)

St. Xavier 68, Brown 36

Cam McDonogh led the Tigers with 15 points while James “Junior” Taylor added 11 points. Pierce Kiesler (eight rebounds), Sam Boarman, and Evan Walker all had nine points apiece.

The Tigers will play Male in the district finals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

27th District (semifinals)

Trinity 68, Atherton 41

David Johnson and Jay Scrubb led the victorious Shamrocks with 16 points and five rebounds apiece.

Justin Powell added 12 points.

Trinity will face Seneca, who stunned Waggener 70-66, in Friday night’s district title game at 8 p.m.
