St. Xavier alum Justin Thomas is in contention after stellar second round performance in the Masters at August National Golf Club Friday.

Thomas shot a 5-under-par 67 in the second and is tied for fifth place with a 3-under-par 141 going into the weekend.

Patrick Reed is the leader with a 135 while Marc Leishman is in second place with a 137.

Thomas will tee off with Tony Finau in the fourth to last group Saturday and is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EDT.  Chances are the third round will not be played until Sunday with an 80 percent chance of rain in the forecast for Augusta.

If Thomas were to win the masters, it would be his second major tournament victory in his career. He won the last major of 2017 last August when he won the PGA Championship.
