St. Xavier alum Justin Thomas is the new No. 1 golfer in the world and is the first ever Kentuckian to have ever accomplished that feat.

Thomas is the fourth youngest golfer to have ever accomplished the feat. Tiger Woods was the youngest, his best buddy Jordan Spieth is the second youngest to reach the No. 1 accolade, and Rory McLlroy was the fourth youngest when he made it to No. 1 for the first time.

It has been a wild ride for Thomas. He has seven tournaments in the past 32 months and won the 2017 PGA Championship and the FedEx

Thomas finished 11th in the Players Championships this past weekend in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. and that propelled him to the top spot.

Dustin Johnson was the former No. 1 golfer and had been perched at the spot for the past 64 weeks.

While he’s No. 1 this week, he could very well lose his spot as he plans to take the next few weeks off and Spieth will play. Thomas is supposed to return for the Memorial Tournament at the end of this month.
