To say the past five weeks have been rough for Ben Rhodes would be a gross understatement.

Hard luck has haunted the Louisville native in three of his last four races. And this Saturday at Gateway, he just wants to finish the race without something going wrong.

“We really need a solid race to get ourselves back on the right track for points, and to build momentum going into Chicagoland Speedway, and my home track, Kentucky Speedway, coming up,” said Rhodes. “I have faith we can do that at Gateway this weekend."

Last week at Iowa Speedway Rhodes was involved in two separate accidents, neither of his own making, and finished 17th. That performance followed an 18th-place finish at Kansas and a 16th-place showing at Texas, both due to engine issues.

Rhodes’ misfortune has led to a sharp drop in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings. He was second prior to Kansas and now finds himself in seventh.

Gateway Motorsports Park should provide a good opportunity for Rhodes to get his season back on track. In two previous starts, he has one pole and two top-ten finishes, including a second in 2016.

However, the track was repaved after last year’s race. And that will only make things more challenging for Rhodes once the green flag flies.

"I think the new surface at Gateway is going to be a big challenge for many of the teams,” he says. “With the new asphalt, you're going to see higher speeds, less bumps, but also more load in the corners. That means the teams are really going to have to focus on setups and potentially changing things around quite a bit. You're really going to have to pull from the notebook to try and figure out what's fast here.”

Race coverage from Gateway begins at 8:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
