Ben Rhodes climbs back into the No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions Ford when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series visits Texas Motor Speedway Friday night.

The PPG 400 is the first of two races at Texas this season. Rhodes is looking to improve on his personal best finish of fifth at the 1.5-mile oval in the spring race in 2017.

“Track position will be key and qualifying up front will be important,” says Rhodes. “Historically, we seem to qualify okay, but I feel we need to do even better this go-around. We need to be in the top-five, preferably on the pole. The higher you qualify, the better your race will be and the smoother your night is going to go.”

Three weeks ago, the Louisville native had an up and down race at Charlotte. The truck was fast, but Rhodes restarted on the inside lane for nearly every green flag and consistently lost positions at the start of a run. Rhodes rallied late to finish fifth, his third top-five of the season.

Good restarts at Texas will be crucial for a solid finish, but Rhodes knows that restarts often lead to trouble.

“It's very hard to pass, but on the restarts, there is a whole lot of action,” says Rhodes. “That can create some exciting moments along with some big wrecks.”

The Holy Cross graduate is fourth in the CWTS points standings and trails third-place Brett Moffitt by only 14 points. Rhodes is also one of just three drivers with five or more top-ten finishes this season.

Race coverage from Texas begins at 9:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
