Fresh off his emotional win at Kentucky Speedway, the Louisville native heads to the half-mile dirt track at Eldora Speedway Wednesday night for what has become the signature event on the Camping World Truck Series schedule.

“Even though I'm not a dirt racer, I think we are going to have a lot of fun,” says Rhodes. “The win helps take the pressure off and allows us to focus more on the fun and surviving the race, rather than putting pressure on ourselves to go get a victory and get ourselves in (the playoffs).

"I think we have a huge amount of momentum going into Eldora Speedway this week. The win at Kentucky secured our spot in the playoffs, but we are still focused on points. We still have to make sure we are meeting our goal, which is finishing inside the top-five for every single race, including Eldora.”

Rhodes was the story of the weekend at Kentucky Speedway. With the aid of some great pit strategy, the Holy Cross alum earned his second-career CWTS series victory and did it at his home track. In addition, Rhodes secured a spot in the playoffs, which takes a huge load off the team’s shoulders.

“Now that the win is behind us, we're going to have fun the rest of the regular season,” says Rhodes. “We still have a lot of really good races ahead of us. Pocono is a track where we still have the track records - we have some unfinished business there. Bristol is also really good for us - there are a lot of fun tracks coming up in the summer months."

Wednesday’s race at Eldora is unique in that it’s the only event in NASCAR’s three major touring series that is run on dirt. Unfortunately for Rhodes, Eldora has not been kind to him in two previous starts. He finished 23rd in 2016 and 30th last season. Rhodes’ ThorSport Racing teammate, Matt Crafton, is the defending race winner.

Race coverage of the Eldora Dirt Derby begins at 9:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
