Trinity Advances in State Tournament

Trinity got a big game from first baseman Davis Crane and is headed to Whitaker Bank Ballpark and the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament for the second time in three seasons. The Shamrocks won Semi State Four beating No. 23 North Oldham, 8-3, on Saturday at Eastern High.

 

Crane, a junior first baseman went two for four with four runs batted in. Crane had a two run double in the third and a leadoff home run in the seventh inning for the third ranked Shamrocks (33-5). 

 

Trinity, ranked third in the KHSAA coaches poll, regional champion two years ago lost to McCracken County opening round 1-0. The Rocks play Hazard (28-7) a 2-1 winner over Corbin at Morehead State University, Thursday at 8:30 p.m. 

 

The Rocks jumped to a 3-0 lead against losing Mustangs pitcher Justin Doyle.  Junior Davis Crane's two run double scored two runs. Sophomore Josh Castleman's bloop single scored a run.

 

Freshman Korbyn Dickerson's two run single staked Trinity to a 7-0 lead.

 

North Oldham (32-8) scored three runs in the fifth against winning pitcher Kaelan Racculia. Alex Atkins RBI double got the Mustangs within 7-3.

 

Trinity ace Nick Thompson in relief got the final out in the sixth inning striking out Nick Rose.

 

After beating No.1 and rival St. Xavier, Tuesday, the Trinity hitting and scoring machine continues. In the post season the Rocks have outscored opponents 61-8 and have average over eight runs a game.

 

Racculia (8-1) with a save to Thompson. North Oldham's Rose (10-2) took the loss.
