The 47th annual Apple Tournament is set for August 19-26 this year at Sacred Heart, kicking off field hockey season. The annual tournament features teams such as Sacred Heart, KCD, and Assumption among others.

Last year, Sacred Heart won the Apple Tournament for the 20th time in school history and went on to win the state tournament.

“The Apple is one of the longest running field hockey tournaments in the US and it is an honor to still be hosting the tournament,” said Sacred Heart head coach Eleanor Mitchell. “Our parents and athletic department work tirelessly to host a top tier tournament and we are so proud to continue the tradition.”

Sacred Heart

Last Season Record: 25-1

Sacred Heart graduated a stellar class last season with Mattie Tabor and Tori Hill among others, but don’t expect a huge drop off from the reigning champs. Sacred Heart returns class of 2020 Layni Lawton and Embry Imorade, their second leading scorer, as well as a strong 2021 class that includes Reese Wearren and Kennedy Vinson, who are both committed to Miami of Ohio.

Last Season Record: 19-7-2

Assumption looks to be one of the stronger teams this season as they return as arguably their two best players. While only graduating 5 seniors including Libby Kraus and Lauren Zanetti, the Rockets return Zoe Snook and Lee Ann Gordan, their top scorers and assist leaders.

Last Season Record: 22-5-2

After finishing as runner-up last season, KCD looks to their class of 2021 to take over as Lucy Poindexter and Emily Harrison, their scoring and assist leaders, graduated. KCD does return class of 2021 Mary Spears. KCD has a lot to prove with as many departures as they have had, but they have the talent to compete.

Last Season Record: 13-8-1

CAL only graduated two seniors from the previous year leaving most of their roster the same. They return their leading scorer Madeline Coombe as well as class of 2021 Claudia Thomas and incoming freshman Anna Marie Krebs. After an early exit from last year’s state tournament, CAL looks to use the Apple Tournament to prove themselves as a contender.

Last Season Record: 20-6-2

After losing to Sacred Heart in the semifinals of last year’s state tournament, Manual class of 2020 looks to carry the load this year. They graduated Kentucky’s 2018 Miss Field Hockey India Reed as well as All-State goalie Addie Clark. However, their leading scorer, Katherine Frey returns.

Last Season Record: 16-10

Male graduated seven seniors last season including all-state first team members in Grace Dukes, Sydney Gainey, and Karlie Gatewood. Their class of 2021, including all-state second team members Laren Pelton and Maggie Will, looks to use their experience as an advantage in this upcoming season.

Last Season Record: 14-6-1

Ballard graduated all four of their all state first team members Maggie Dickman, Edie Carnazzo, Mack Masyada, and Abi Waldron. Although losing 9 seniors, they return all-state second team members from the class of 2020 Audry Slyter and Katherine Woodhouse.

South Oldham

Last Season Record: 18-5

With a young core last season in only having one senior, South Oldham has plenty of experience. They lost Amani Sodhi, their goal keeper who signed with Davidson. They return class of 2020 and leading scorer Anna Crump as well as two talented class of 2021 players in Sarah McDowell and Maya Guinn.
