I remember the first time I met coach Ty Scroggins. It was a Friday night and his Central Yellowjackets had just beat DeSales 27-14 in a game at Fairldale in August, 2012.

The news came Wednesday night in a release from DeSales that Scroggins, 49, had passed away after a battle with the Coronavirus.

Scroggins won five Class AAA state championships and was runner up twice. He helped make the inner city school a football power in Kentucky. His record was 101-43 in 10 seasons with the Yellowjackets. He later moved to DeSales in 2017 as an assistant coach on Harold Davis' staff.

His son Jayden was the starting quarterback for the Colts the last two seasons

"Ty was a great man," said DeSales Athletics Director Don Bowers. "He was very quite and unassuming. But when he got between the lines he was a great competitor."

Scroggins, played linebacker for coach Howard Schnellenberger at The University of Louisville, was a outstanding player at Fairdale High. His record in 10 seasons was 101-43 in 10 seasons (2007-16).

Scroggins worked with the offense his first season with the Colts and was offensive coordinator with Wes Rogers.

In addition to Jayden he has two daughters, Jordan, a senior on the Pleasure Ridge Park basketball team and Mikayla a sophomore volleyball and softball athlete at Male. "We are so sad and heart broken for the family, Jayden and Sheri (Duff his girl friend )" said Bowers.

The DeSales release said, "Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers."

Bowers said the arrangements will come at a later date.
