Boston College Lands Three On U.S. Team
Two current players, one former named to U.S. hockey team
Current Boston College women's ice hockey players Molly Schaus and Meagan Mangene, as well as former Eagle Allie Thunstrom, were named to the U.S. Women's Select Team for the 2010 Four Nations Cup, as announced on Friday, September 17, 2010 by USA Hockey.
The tournament will take place November 9-13 in St. John's N.L. Team USA will compete against Sweden, Cananda, and Finland. Thunstrom, a 2010 graduate, was the one of Boston College's most valuable players during her four years on the squad. Last season's captain led the Eagles' offense with 22 goals and 7 assists for a total of 29 points. She ended her career with 86 goals, 52 assists, and 138 points over 141 games.
Thunstrom finds herself in the Top 10 of many of BC's records, notably third overall in career goals. Schaus returns to the Heights this season after taking last year off to play for Team USA as a member of the silver medal team at the XXI Vancouver Winter Olympics. In her three previous seasons at BC, Schaus has already broken most goaltender records and holds first place in six different categories, including career wins.
Mangene will make her collegiate debut at BC this year, but the freshman has already proven her skills through her play with Team USA. She was one of the captains of the 2010 U18 team that won the silver medal at the World Championship, and also played for the 2008 and 2009 gold medal World Championship teams. This past August she was the youngest member of the Over-22 team at the USA Hockey Women's National Festival.
Prior to competition, players will participate in a training camp to be held in Brunswick, Maine from October 31-November 6.
