Frederick, Dibba lead Red Storm in field events

Competing at the New York Armory for the second time in two days, the St. John's Red Storm track & field team placed fifth out of fourteen teams, scoring 47 points in the NYRR Saturday Night at the Armory meet.

St. John's came extremely close to scoring even more points as six different event finishes ranked ninth, just outside the scoring range. The majority of the Red Storm's points came from the field events.

Senior Priscilla Frederick continued to raise the bar in the high jump, reaching a first-place height of 1.82 meters, just a day after qualifying for the USATF Indoor Championships with a jump of 1.80 meters. Her career-best jump is 1.84 meters, which also stands as the St. John’s school record. Frederick also ran in the hurdles (9.36 seconds) and competed in the long jump (5.32 meters).

Senior Bintou Dibba scored five points with her fourth-place finish in the long jump, reaching a season-best distance of 5.64 meters.

St. John’s sported top ten finishers in three of the four middle-to-long distance races, led by senior Sarah Sudbury’s performance in the 800-meter race. She placed sixth with a time of 2:19.80, scoring three points for the Red Storm.

Redshirt-freshman Michelle Duffy placed ninth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:03.50 and redshirt-sophomore Nicole Cocozza was ninth in the mile with a time of 5:12.52.  Redshirt-sophomore Aryon Trujillo ran a career-best time in the 3K, crossing the line in 10:37.35 and placing 17th.

Freshman Corrine Williams continued to score points in the 60-meter dash, placing seventh overall with a time of 7.88 seconds. She was followed by usual middle-distance sprinters Rene Cousins and Molly Ellis who placed 12th (7.93 seconds) and 22nd respectively (8.04 seconds). Cousins and Ellis also ran in the 200-meter dash, with Cousins finishing in 25.82 seconds and Ellis in 26.11 seconds. Williams placed ninth in that event with a time of 25.80 seconds.

Freshman Brittney Wright ran a time of 8.16 seconds in the 60-meter dash, while classmate Maya Lewis crossed the line in 26.63 seconds in the 200-meter race.
