Torero Women's Tennis Moves To No. 24
San Diego squad finishes week 3-0 to maintain Top-25 ranking
The University of San Diego women's tennis team came in at No. 24 in the most recent Campbell/ITA rankings released Tuesday afternoon.
The Toreros (13-4, 2-2 WCC) dropped one spot from their previous ranking, despite going 3-0 this past week. USD earned 7-0 sweeps over Illinois and then-No. 74 Santa Clara at home this past week, in addition to a 6-1 win over then-No. 70 Fresno State, also at home.
Sophomore Stephanie Hoffpauir dropped one spot in the singles rankings to No. 75. Hoffpauir split her two singles contests this past week by defeating Illinois' Rachael White, ranked 98th at the time, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, and losing to Fresno State's then-No. 99 Marianne Jodoin 6-4, 6-4. Hoffpauir is 11-4 in singles play this season playing primarily at No. 1.
Hoffpauir and junior Juliette Coupez climbed back into the doubles rankings with a No. 63 ranking this week. The tandem is 7-7 on the year with wins over two top-30 pairs this season, including an 8-5 victory over then-No. 18 White and Allison Falkin of Illinois this past Wednesday. Hoffpauir and Coupez were previously ranked 70th on March 1st but dropped out of the rankings on March 15th.
This marks the third-straight week the Toreros have been ranked in the top-25. The last time USD finished the season in the top-25 was in 1996 when the Toreros finished at No. 25 with a 15-9 record, while losing in the first round of the NCAA championships.
The Toreros play host to Loyola Marymount this Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
