Georgetown will host Midshipmen in 7th Cup meeting

The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (3-4, 2-1 BIG EAST) will host Navy (4-5) for a Friday face-off at Multi-Sport Field at 7 p.m. The Hoyas and Midshipmen will be competing for the Boyle Cup for the seventh time.

The Hoyas are 14-7 in the all-time series and 5-1 since the Boyle Cup began in 2005.

The Boyle Cup is named in honor of longtime official Scott Boyle, who tragically collapsed and passed away while officiating the Navy-Georgetown game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on April 2, 2005. The Boyle Cup was established by family, friends, and fellow officials of Boyle and is presented each year to winner of the Georgetown - Navy men's lacrosse game.

The Hoyas enter Friday's contest looking to bounce back from last Saturday's loss at No. 4 Duke. The Blue & Gray jumped out to a 9-5 first half lead, but they could not hold it en route to a 14-12 defeat. Davey Emala (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) led the offense with four goals and an assist, while Rickey Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) and Gerry Reilly (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Xavier) both added two goals.

Emala leads the nation in goal scoring, averaging 3.29 goals per game through the Hoyas first seven games. Emala has scored three or more goals in five of GU's seven games this season, including three consecutive games with three or more. Mirabito has seen his role shift this season after the injury to Zac Guy.

Mirabito, who had 16 assists in his previous three seasons on the Hilltop has become the team's set-up man, recording 12 assists in seven games, to average 1.86 per game, tied for eighth best in the nation. The Tewaaraton Watch List player also has eight goals for 20 points on the season.

Preseason All BIG EAST selection Travis Comeau has 15 points from 12 goals and three assists, while sophomore midfielder Brian Casey is close behind with 13 from nine goals and four assists.

Senior Brian Tabb (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) is 86-for-147 in the face-off circle and leads the squad with 48 ground balls. Tewaaraton Watch List defenders Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) and Dan Hostetler (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) have 28 and 20 ground balls, respectively.

The face-off will be at 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on Verizon FiOS1 with Dave McHugh handling the play-by-play and former Hoya Andy Corno providing the analysis. The game will also be available live on HoyaVision on GUHoyas.com featuring Chuck Timanus. Live stats will be available on GUHoyas.com.
