Cardinals defeat Juniata 7-2 to advance to conference tourney

With a 7-2 win over Juniata on Sunday, CUA punched its ticket to the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament.  The Cardinals received singles wins from Bernardo Nogales, Cassian Utrie, Jean Paul Roman, Kyle Kramer and Joe Gribbon as CUA wins its 13th match of the season and improves to 4-2 in the conference.

Nogales won the first singles point after downing Justin Wisniewski 6-0, 6-1, while Utrie took down Elliot Perow 6-0, 6-2 at the second flight.

At third singles, CUA’s Joe Peters was upended by Brice Morey 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, but Roman took down Arnab Chakrabarti 6-0, 6-2 for the Cardinals third singles win.

Kramer earned a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Scott Andrews at fifth singles and Gribbin won a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Matt Butler at sixth singles.

In doubles play, Nogales and Roman won the first point with an 8-1 victory over Wisniewski and Chakrabarti, while at the second flight Utrie and Peters were upended by Morey and Perow 8-4.

Kramer and Jason Quisberth won the third doubles point with an 8-5 victory against Andrews and Butler.

CUA has one regular season match remaining, which comes on Thursday, April 21 when the Cardinals play host to Susquehanna.  Match time is 1 p.m.
