Sophomore earns same accolade that his brother did in 2005

In the long history of the Central Coast Section, only two boys basketball players have been named Cal-Hi Sports state sophomore of the year - and they grew up under the same roof.

Archbishop Mitty's Aaron Gordon was selected as this year's winner, matching the feat that his older brother, Drew, accomplished in 2005. Aaron Gordon also was recently named a first-team selection for the MaxPreps sophomore All-American team.

While leading the Monarchs to their first state championship, Gordon averaged 18.1 points, 13.2 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. He tied a state championship record with 21 rebounds in the CIF Division II title game.

Gordon - who will play for the under-16 national team this summer - is currently the eighth-ranked player in the Class of 2013, according to ESPN.
