Beriont leads No. 20-ranked squad to 5-0 victory
Freshman left-handed pitcher Kate Beriont threw a five-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts and went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead St. John Vianney to a 5-0 victory over Red Bank Catholic for the championship of the Monmouth County Tournament-Red Division on Wednesday, highlighting a light day of softball around the state.
Cailin Winokur went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for St. John Vianney, No. 2 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, which took an early lead on No. 5 Red Bank Catholic in the first as Winokur and Taylor August each drove in a run.
