Volleyball freshman named Athlete of the Week as a result

Freshman outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) had 46 kills and 28 digs over four matches in the Scranton Invitational this past weekend to help the Royals go 3-1 and finish second in the five-team tournament.

For her efforts, Crilly has been named Royal Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 11.

Crilly had 11 kills in a tournament-opening 3-0 win over Centenary on Friday evening, then followed that up with a solid all-around performance -- six kills, two service aces, five digs, and two blocks – in a 3-1 loss to Clarkson later that evening.

On Saturday, Crilly had the best match of her young career when she had 18 kills and 16 digs in a 3-2 victory over Ramapo. She then had 10 kills and six digs as the Royals beat Marywood, 3-0, to claim third place. Crilly was also named to the all-tournament team.

The Royals, now 5-4, are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y., to face Oneonta State at 6 p.m.
