Stock Hat Trick Leads SLU To 3-1 Victory
Billikens defeat UMKC behind freshman's performance
Freshman forward Abbey Stock (Town & Country, Mo./St. Joseph's) had a hand in all three Saint Louis goals as the Billikens turned away UMKC 3-1 Sunday evening at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Freshman back Sabrina Hostler (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu) tallied the first goal and first assist of her collegiate career to help the Bills improve to 2-4. UMKC slipped to 1-3-3. Hostler put Saint Louis on top at the 7:25 mark. Passing crisply, the Billikens moved the ball deep into the UMKC back line, resulting in a tap-in for Hostler on the right side. Stock and sophomore forward Jenny Hummert (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph's) picked up assists on the play.
Stock made it 2-0 at 24:53. Taking a short pass from senior midfielder Colleen Kustura (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View), who notched her first assist of the season, she launched a shot from 20 yards over a leaping UMKC goalkeeper. Stock scored her team-leading third goal of the season at 55:29. Racing toward the goal and receiving a pass that Hostler slipped by a UMKC defender, she buried a shot from six yards out.
The Kangaroos got on the board at 81:44 when Zaina Mayer, assisted by Jordan Andrzejewski, found the back of the net for her first goal of the year. Junior goalkeeper Katie Walsh (Chesterfield, Mo./Whitfield) made five saves for Saint Louis. Stock and UMKC's Ashley Gann tied for game-high honors with four shots apiece, while Hostler fired three shots.
The Billikens continue a three-game home stand Friday, Sept. 16, hosting Southeast Missouri State at 7 p.m.
