Dayton Duo Earns A-10 Volleyball Honors
Krabacher, Campbell pick up conference-wide awards
Dayton’s Rachel Krabacher and Megan Campbell were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.
Krabacher, a junior outside hitter, was named Most Valuable Player at the Blue and White Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., as the Flyers swept all three opponents to win the event title. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native led the tournament field with 4.33 kills per set while recording a hitting percentage of .388.
Krabacher opened the tournament with back-to-back double-doubles – her eighth in UD’s 12 matches – against Cornell and Syracuse, while adding a career-high of four aces against the Orange, with all four occurring consecutively.
She capped off the Classic with 12 kills on a .409 clip against host Buffalo. Krabacher currently leads the A-10 in kills per set (4.53) and points (5.10).
Campbell, a sophomore middle blocker, earns her second weekly award of the season after leading the Flyers’ front court with 16 blocks (1.78 per set) to help hold UD’s weekend opponents to a .037 hitting percentage. The Versailles, Ohio, native was also named to the All-Tournament Team of the Blue and White Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., as Dayton rolled past Cornell, Syracuse and Buffalo.
She opened the weekend with seven blocks against Cornell, before recording four blocks against Syracuse – more than the Orange, the nation’s leader in blocks per set, registered as a team – and five against host Buffalo. Campbell currently leads the A-10 in blocks per set (1.33).
It is the second time this season that Dayton has earned both the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
On Aug. 30 Megan Campbell was named Offensive Player of the Week and Paige Vargas was the Defensive Player of the Week. Duquesne’s Patti Abshire was named the Conference’s Rookie of the Week.
The Flyers begin Atlantic 10 Conference play next weekend as they play host to La Salle on Friday and Temple on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. ET and are available via video streaming through DaytonFlyers.com.
