Sophomore Earns Player Of The Week Award

St. Mary's soccer sophomore had big week for Gaels
Melinda Madden has been named the Saint Mary's student-athlete Player of the Week. The sophomore defender scored the game-winner in the 66th minute against No. 15 UC Irvine. The road win over a ranked opponent was the first in nine years for the Gaels. It was also the highest ranked team the Gaels have beaten since the 2001 campaign.
Madden dribbled through defenders and fired a shot from 25 yards past the keeper into the net in the game winner against UC Irvine. The Gaels also faced a tough Long Beach State squad and were outdone by LBSU as SMC had its split on the road against two of the top teams in the West Region.
The Lake Oswego native is the second consecutive women's soccer student-athlete to earn the honor after teammate Christina Tognetti won it last week.
